  39. \- modify an existing advance or standing reservation
  40. .SH SYNOPSIS
  41. .B pbs_ralter
  42. [-E <end time>] [-I <block time>] [-m <mail points>]
  43. [-M <mail list>] [-N <reservation name>] [-R <start time>]
  44. <reservation ID>
  45. .br
  46. .B pbs_ralter
  47. --version
  48. .SH DESCRIPTION
  49. You can use the
  50. .B pbs_ralter
  51. command to alter an existing advance or standing reservation. You can
  52. change the start time, end time, events that generate mail, mail
  53. recipient list, and reservation name. You can change the end time for
  54. a running reservation with running jobs.
  55. You can use this command to change an advance reservation or the next
  56. or current instance of a standing reservation.
  57. After the change is requested, the change is either confirmed or
  58. denied. On denial of the change, the reservation is not deleted and is
  59. left as is, and the following message appears in the server's log:
  60. .nf
  61. Unable to alter reservation <reservation ID>
  62. .fi
  63. When a reservation is
  64. confirmed, the following message appears in the server's log:
  65. .nf
  66. Reservation alter successful for <reservation ID>
  67. .fi
  68. To find out whether or not the change was allowed:
  69. .RS 3
  70. Use the pbs_rstat command: see whether you altered reservation attribute(s)
  71. Use the interactive option: check for confirmation after the blocking time has run out
  72. Check the server log for confirmation or denial messages
  73. .RE
  74. Before the change is confirmed or denied, the change is unconfirmed,
  75. and the reservation state is
  76. .I AL.
  77. Once a reservation change is confirmed, the reservation state is
  78. .I CO
  79. or
  80. .I RN.
  81. If the reservation has not started and it cannot be confirmed on the same vnodes, PBS
  82. searches for another set of vnodes.
  83. .B Required Privilege
  84. .br
  85. You must be the reservation owner or the PBS Administrator to run this command.
  86. .SH Options to pbs_ralter
  87. .IP "-R <start time>" 10
  88. Specifies reservation's new start time. This option can be used either
  89. when the reservation is not running or there are no jobs are submitted
  90. to the reservation. You cannot use this option when a reservation is
  91. not empty and has started running.
  92. The specifications for providing the time are the same as for pbs_rsub:
  93. .br
  94. If the day,
  95. .I DD,
  96. is not specified, it defaults to today if the time
  97. .I hhmm
  98. is in the future. Otherwise, the day is set to tomorrow. For
  99. example, if you alter a reservation with the specification -R 1110 at
  100. 11:15 a.m., it is interpreted as being for 11:10 a.m. tomorrow. If
  101. the month portion,
  102. .I MM,
  103. is not specified, it defaults to the current month, provided that the specified day
  104. .I DD,
  105. is in the future. Otherwise, the month is set to next month. Similar
  106. rules apply to the two other optional, left-side components.
  107. Format:
  108. .I Datetime
  109. .IP "-E <end time>" 10
  110. Specifies reservation's new end time. This option can be used even
  111. when the reservation is running and has jobs that are submitted to
  112. and/or are running in the reservation.
  113. Format:
  114. .I Datetime
  115. .IP "-I <block time>" 10
  116. Specifies interactive mode. The pbs_ralter command will block, up to
  117. .I block time
  118. seconds, while waiting for the reservation's change request
  119. to be confirmed or denied.
  120. The value for
  121. .I block time
  122. must be positive. The pbs_ralter command
  123. returns either the status
  124. .I "CONFIRMED"
  125. or the status
  126. .I "DENIED".
  127. Format:
  128. .I Integer
  129. Default: Not interactive
  130. .IP "-m <mail points>" 10

  132. users specified in the
  133. .I -M <mail list>
  134. option.
  135. Format:
  136. .I String
  137. .br
  138. Syntax: Either of
  139. .RS 13
  140. 1) any combination of "a", "b", "c" or "e", or
